  • Historic Groundbreaking for Papua New Guinea Meetinghouse

    Bilu is a small village in the Jiwaka Province of the Papua New Guinea Highlands. On 3 December it was the site of a much celebrated and unprecedented event. 350 people gathered to witness the groundbreaking of the first Latter-day Saint meetinghouse in the area. Local tribal chiefs, community leaders and Latter-day Saints from the surrounding areas were in attendance.  Full Story

  • Solomon Island Saints Make Good Things Happen

    Latter-day Saints in Honiara, Solomon Islands, celebrated the organization of the nation's first District (equivalent to a small diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this month.   • Daru Islanders Now Have a Stake

    There is a new stake in Daru, PNG. Its President, Tom Songoro, thinks nothing of catching a four-hour canoe ride through rough seas of crocs. and sharks to visit one of the wards. His faith and devotion is matched by that of the stake members, who come to church walking or riding crude "busses," on long roads beset with armed robbers, and sometimes without the luxury of shoes. Daru is the second stake for Papa New Guineans. It will not be their last. The Church members in PNG face many times the challenges of their neighbours in Australia and New Zealand, but the trial of their faith is now being rewarded with many entering the waters of baptism.  Full Story

  • Latter-day Saint Choir Sings at War Memorial Unveiling

    The 30-member Gold Coast Latter-day Saint Choir performed during an unveiling ceremony of the new Queensland Korean War Memorial in Cascade Gardens, Broadbeach, on 20 August. Honoured by the invitation to join a select group of performers for the solemn occasion, the choir rendered the Australian National hymn as well as "I Still Call Australia Home" and other songs during the official service and at the Celebration of Peace held afterwards.  Full Story

  • “...and Their Names Were Taken That They Might be … Nourished…” (Moroni 6:4)

    In May, 2011, President Meliula Fata, of the Papua New Guinea Port Moresby Mission, travelled seven hours by dinghy to Sogere, PNG. While there he participated in the teaching and baptizing of 114 investigators. The baptismal service was unique in its setting and in its blessings of safety.  Full Story
