The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released an audio version of the LDS standard works for download on iTunes in audiobook or MP3 format.

Each volume of scripture—the Book of Mormon, Old Testament, New Testament, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price—is available in audiobook format (called “enhanced audio content” on iTunes). For example, instead of having to download each individual book of the four gospels, all of the content from the New Testament, from Matthew through Revelation, is included in one, free, easy-to-download file.

MP3 files for individual chapters of scripture are also available for free download for the entire standard works.

“The purpose is to provide the recordings in a popular format to increase accessibility for those who prefer this format,” said Rob Jex, director of scriptures coordination for the Church.

Users can listen to the scriptures while commuting, running errands, exercising, and engaging in other activities. The audiobooks and MP3s make it easy to access the scriptures at any time and can be used to help prepare for lessons and talks.

The content is the same as that found in the Church’s scriptures CDs, but with higher-quality audio. An added benefit for the audiobooks is that members can listen to an entire volume of scripture without having to change discs.

The audio version of the full standard works is available in English and Spanish, and the audio versions of the Japanese, Portuguese, and Korean triple combinations are also available.

To access these new resources, go to the scriptures section of the Church’s channel at iTunes.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
