Wulf E. Barsch Oil on linen, 2001
This painting depicts concepts found in the Book of Isaiah. "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills" (Isaiah 2:2). Pyramid forms representing this point where God speaks to man frequently appear in Wulf Barsch's paintings. His imagery uses extensive symbolism from Hebrew and Christian sources and his work has also been said to depict the ideal "landscape of the mind." Although he is sometimes considered a modern artist, Barsch's refined technique reveals that his approach is closer to the Old Masters. |
