James Ronald Bartlett Cast bronze, 2002
This sculpture honors the faith of the Nauvoo Saints who built a city and a temple under enduring hardship only to be forced to abandon them. The sculptor utilized basic architectural designs, including the tower of the temple; the flying angel, the pillar motif, the familiar icons of sunstone, moonstone, and stars, and the four narrative basreliefs. He attempted to capture both the historical and spiritual perspectives of the Nauvoo Temple together with the revelations of the Prophet Joseph Smith. |
