Benjamin Behunin Fired clay, 2001
The subject of this piece of artwork comes from Matthew 11. The two people on either side of the Saviora man and a womanare so burdened by their heavy loads that they can't see where they are going. The Savior stands in the middle of the triptych and holds a double yoke, implying that the reason His yoke is easy is because as we turn to Him, He helps us to carry our burdens. The tiles were formed using a linoleum block carved in relief and impressed into the clay. Stain was applied and fired in a kiln to 2,400 degrees. |
