Carma Bowen Photographic print on paper, 2002
While rearranging a longneglected corner of her basement, the artist decided to recreate the past in a photograph. Doing this brought back memories of childhood where bread was baked in an oven heated by coal and its wonderful aroma wafted through the air when the oven door was opened to check if the bread was done. The memory of a fall harvest of apples and vegetables also fill one with a feeling of being richly blessed by the hand of the Lord, and one feels gratitude for our daily bread. |
