LaMona Brown Knotted textile, 2001
As rendered in this fabric artwork, out of many roots, two form a tree with four branches representing children and thirteen fruits representing grandchildren. The vine, which is frequently regarded as a religious symbol, encircles the tree and holds the family together. Scriptures also express this: "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life" (Proverbs 11:30), and "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit" (John 15:5). |
