Teodorico P. Cumagun Jr Oil on canvas, 2002
The first sacrament meeting of the Ibaan group was held in a small nipa hut in a farming village of Dayapan, Ibaan, in March 1998. A Book of Mormon promise was fulfilled that the Lord will "remember those who are upon the isles of the sea" (2 Nephi 29:7). The missionaries assigned to open the Ibaan area accidentally came upon a group of Church members from the far off Bicol region who had joined years earlier but had worked as farmhands in Dayapan and settled there. They are people of great faith despite their extreme poverty. In December 2000, the group became a branch, now known as Ibaan Branch of the Lipa Philippines Stake. |
