Emma Allebes Patchwork textile, 2000
The theme for the quilt comes from the hymn, "Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words," which contains such words as "love," "friendship," and "hope." To create it the artist purchased fabrics and printed beautiful words by hand on the cloth. Next she collected sixteen different black and camel printed fabrics. A star pattern was designed for the center and first border. The second border is the batik with miniature flying geese dividing the final border of a Dutch wax print purchased in Holland. |
