Winterfest 2010

Event Description

The exhilarating choreography of dance companies and the sweet harmonies of the Brigham Young University musical performers will once again echo in the Salt Lake Valley with the commencement of BYU Winterfest 2010. Beginning February 5, Living Legends, Vocal Point, Synthesis, Ballroom Dance Company, Theatre Ballet, and Choral Showcase will perform over several weeks of celebration.

The quick-selling BYU Winterfest, with its wide variety, is sure to please various artistic tastes. Scheduled for performance in the Conference Center Theater, Winterfest is part of Temple Square Performances. Winterfest's six performing groups promise to provide a wonderful way to celebrate the winter season.

Living Legends

Living Legends - Friday-Saturday, February 5-6, 2010

Living Legends combines dynamic choreography of native America with the color and vitality of Polynesian and Latin American dances. Performed by talented descendants of these cultures and woven together by traditional and contemporary music, Living Legends’ program is a stunning tribute to the ancient cultures of the Americas and the Pacific.

Synthesis, Brigham Young University’s award-winning instrumental jazz ensemble, combines swing, jazz, blues, rock, fusion, gospel, and Latin styles. Performing favorites by jazz legends such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Louis Armstrong, along with original compositions and arrangements by group members, the band’s swinging tunes and spectacular soloists are sure to bring the most discerning of audiences to its feet.

Choral Showcase has been a highlight of Winterfest. This year the BYU Singers and Concert Choir will sing individually and then join together to create a beautiful kaleidoscope of song.
BYU Singers
The Brigham Young University Singers, BYU’s premiere choral group, has captivated audiences around the world with their versatility, beautiful sound, and innovative programming. Directed by Ron Staheli, BYU Singers’ repertoire is rooted in the classic choral tradition; it extends to pieces from virtually every musical period and style such as folk songs, spirituals, and musical theater hits.
Concert Choir
Concert Choir, directed by Rosalind Hall, includes 90 of BYU’s most talented student singers. Performing works from various genres in the choral literature, the Concert Choir has earned a reputation for its captivating performances.

    Beginning Wednesday, November 18, 2009, tickets can be obtained as follows:

  • In person at the ticket office located at door 4 of the Conference Center (the ticket office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday).

Special Considerations

  • No babies, please.
  • Wheelchair seating is available. Patrons who require such seating should inform the ticket office when they obtain tickets or inform Guest Services when they arrive at the event.
  • Patrons should not bring cameras or audio or video recording devices into the performance halls. Photographing and audio or video recording any portion of the production is strictly prohibited.
  • Sunday dress is encouraged.
  • Patrons should turn off pagers, cellular phones, and similar electronic devices during the performance.
  • Food and beverages are not permitted in performance halls.
  • Patrons may not bring packages or backpacks into performance halls.
  • Those attending the production should consider traffic congestion and plan to arrive early.
  • On the day of each performance, free parking is available under the Conference Center by showing your event ticket to the parking attendant.
  • The Conference Center Theater doors open 60 minutes before each performance start time. Ticket holders are requested to be in their seats no later than 10 minutes before the performance begins. The length of the performance is approximately 90 minutes.
