Frequently Asked Questions for Handheld Devices

The Church desires to provide approved material in a variety of formats to benefit members of the Church worldwide. This new handheld content is an initial effort to provide content to a growing population of handheld device users.

We have started with the content that is applicable to current courses of gospel study, and we plan to add the current Ensign magazine each month along with other approved documents as resources allow. Please check back regularly for updates.

Q. Why are only some Church materials available for handheld devices?

A. Our goal is to evaluate the need and value of providing Church materials in a handheld format. The first step is to provide materials used for current courses of gospel study. As time and resources allow, we will make additional materials available. We recommend that you return to this site at least monthly to check for updates. We also request that you provide feedback to us regarding the handheld device Web site. Your feedback will allow us to better serve those who wish to use Church materials on their handhelds.

Q. Why aren’t the scriptures posted on the Church’s handheld device Web site?

A. EZ Reader Archives contain the only official handheld version of the scriptures. Providing the scriptures in all available formats is a priority of the Church. Due to the sacred nature of the scriptures, the editorial review process for new format offerings is rigorous and time consuming. Copies of the standard works on third-party Web sites are not official or Church approved.

Q. When will foreign language material be made available for handheld devices?

A. We will post non-English materials for handhelds as soon as possible.

Q. When I try to view lds.org content on my handheld reader, the formatting changes or doesn’t match what I see in print or on lds.org. What happened and how can I fix it?

A. The Church does not provide technical support for handheld devices or the reader programs associated with them. All questions about your handheld device and its reader should be directed to the provider of the handheld device or reader software. To go to your reader's technical support pages, visit Technical Support for handhelds. If you find problems with the reader's support pages, please contact us through the Handheld Feedback page.

Q. How reliable is the Church-related content that I find on Web sites that are not sponsored by the Church?

A. The Church endorses all content on the lds.org Web site as accurate and ready for Church-related use. The Church does not endorse or guarantee the accuracy or stability of Church-related content found on other Web sites.

Q. Why doesn’t the Church endorse content conversion by unaffiliated third parties?

A. The Church has carefully reviewed the content on lds.org to be accurate and ready for use by members and friends of the Church. Content conversion from one format to another by unaffiliated third parties may alter the content such that the Church cannot confirm nor endorse its accuracy.

Q. What kind of handheld device should I use?

A. The Church does not endorse any particular handheld brand, operating system, or software.

Q. How can I recommend additional handheld content to be included on this site?

A. You can submit your request through the Handheld Feedback page. Please be assured that all messages will be read. Also, please know that through your feedback and our ongoing efforts to better serve our audience, this site will continue to change and improve.

Q. What happened to the Church’s EZ Reader program and content?

A. The Church no longer supports the EZ Reader program. Content that was already developed will remain available, but no new material will be posted for this reader. The EZ Reader Archives page has basic instructions on installation and downloading. However, the EZ Reader program will not work for newer handheld devices. We recommend that you use the readers offered on the main handheld page. New content will continually be made available for these reader programs.

Q. What if a link does not work on the Web page?

A. If you find a broken link on one of the Church's Web pages, please notify us through the Feedback page. If you are having any technical problems with your device or software, please contact your respective provider.
