What needs do you notice?

A message from the Young Men general presidency.

Hi, I’m Brother Wilcox, and I want to talk to you about service.

Now, I know you’re immediately thinking service projects, and that’s important, but I want to talk to you about a very simple kind of service.

When I was at BYU as a student, I had a fitness for life class, and we had to run the mile. And then at the end of the semester, we were supposed to improve our time.

Well before the final test, I had been in another city, which meant that I had to drive all night to get there in time for the test. So by the time I was a few laps around that track, I was dead, and I had a classmate who noticed.

I didn’t explain it to him. I didn’t ask for help. He just noticed that I was struggling. And he ran up beside me, and he just reached out his shirt, and I grabbed his shirt, and I ran behind him and made it to the finish line.

Service doesn’t always have to be a big, huge deal. Service just means you’re going to see a need and you’re going to meet that need. And that made a difference for me.

Observe and Serve

Try extra hard to notice the needs of others this week. What can you do to help?
