Biography:

H. Kent Rappleye came to the Ogden Institute in the fall of 2006. He began teaching seminary for CES in 1978 in Phoenix, Arizona. He then moved to Hayden Lake, ID in 1983 and taught seminary until moving to Medical Lake, WA in 1991, where he coordinated early morning seminary in Eastern Washington, North Idaho, and Western Montana, as well as directed the Cheney Institute of Religion adjacent to Eastern Washington University. In 1997 he was asked to move to Utah to work as an instructional designer in the Church Office Building. He had a variety of assignments over the next seven years, and then in 2004 he returned to the classroom at the Layton Institute near the Weber State University Davis Campus. Brother Rappleye graduated from BYU in 1978 with a degree in Mass Communications—emphasis Journalism. In 1983 he received his Master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in Educational Psychology. In 1994, he received his Ph.D. from Gonzaga University in Educational Leadership. Brother Rappleye served a mission to Guatemala and El Salvador from 1973-1974. He and his wife Nancy have four children; three sons and one daughter. Brother Rappleye believes students are responsible for their own learning and expects them to think—ponder—think—ponder—think and speak up. Brother Rappleye feels that learning the gospel is a great adventure, and the reward of the journey is to come to know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
