ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
How do I register for classes?
You may register at the Institute office or on-line via the "Register For Classes" tab on the Pullman Institute home page. There is no fee for classes.
May I register for more than one class?
Absolutely! You may take as many classes as your schedule permits.
What promises have modern prophets given us regarding Institute participation?
President Benson encouraged participation in Religious Education, "We must balance our secular learning with spiritual learning...Young adults enrolled in universities and colleges or other postsecondary training should avail themselves of the opportunity to take institute of religion courses...Joining our spiritual education to our secular learning will help us keep focused on the things that matter most in life." Pres. Boyd K. Packer said, "...If your students are acquainted with the revelations, there is no question--personal or social or political or occupational--that need go unanswered."
I am not a student, can I attend an Institute class?
Sure! Institute is for all young adults ages 18 to 30 (single, married, student or not). This a great way to get to know other young people and be involved in spiritual discussion and fun activities.
Is it ever "too late" to register?
No way! President Hinckley has asked that every young single adult be involved in Institute classes--and you can start at any time.
What is Married Friday Forum
Married Friday Forum is a 1 credit class especially desinged for a married's night out. We have a presentation on a gospel subject for the first 45-55 minutes, follwed by a dinner and social. This class meets every month on the first Friday evening. (9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7)
What is Friday Forum?
This is a devotional/lecture by speakers chosen from the Church or community to enlighten our minds on various topics. After the discussion, we have a light meal or refreshments. Time is 12:10 to 1:00 so you can get to class, or hang around if you have the time afterward. There is no fee for this activity. Come enjoy! Who said there is no free lunch?
How close is the Institute to on-campus facilities & housing
The Institute is in a great location. We are right across the street from several dorms and surrounded by several fraternities and sororities. You can walk to nearly every class on campus within the normal ten minute passing time.We are close to the Engineering buildings and Student Bookstore on the west side of campus.
Are my Institute credits transferable?
All Institute credits earned at other Church Institutes are transferable to the Pullman Institute. Credit earned at this Institute is transferable to all other Church Institutes. In addition, credits earned here may be transferable to BYU when certain requirements are met (see instructor for details).
Are there other locations where I can take an Institute class?
The Moscow Institute has a full range of morning, mid-day and evening classes. It is about 9 miles away. For details call (208)883-0520. See the web site under Institute Locator at www.ldsces.org.
What is this about "graduating" from Institute?
It's true. When you attain 14 credits, including first and second half of the Book of Mormon and 6 more credits of scripture based classes, you will graduate from Institute with a Diploma. After graduating you can then work toward an "Advanced Certificate" accruing additional credits. There is no limit to the number of Advanced Certificates you may receive. (The record stands at 5 right now.) These awards represent a continued effort to make religious education a priority in your life. They will also be useful for intimidating your children into attending early morning seminary. :)
