ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
What is the Institute e-mail address?
You may e-mail the Institute at bostonma@ldsces.org.
Approximately how many young single adult members of the church are there in the Boston area?
There are approximately two thousand young single adults in the Church in the Boston area. Most attend the four singles wards in the area, but many choose to attend the family ward closest to their home.
What singles ward should I attend?
There are three young single adult wards in Cambridge (serving the whole greater Boston area) which all meet in the Institute building; the ward to which you belong is dependent on your age and where you live. Also, for students in the more distant northwest suburbs, the Heritage Park Young Single Aduld Ward meets in Lowell, Massachusetts. That ward is part of the Nashua New Hampshire stake. For those in the city and suburbs in the Cambridge, Boston, and Hingham stakes, the University Ward serves members 18-24 and the Longfellow First & Second Wards serve those 25 and older. Visit the Cambridge MA Stake page at lds.org for the latest information about the wards and their meeting times. Any bishopric would be glad to assist you in finding your ward if you visit on a Sunday.
I will be moving to the area soon. How can I find some LDS roommates?
The singles wards maintain a housing list at http://housing.justlists.org.
Is Institute appropriate for married couples? What about childcare?
Absolutely! Many married couples enjoy taking an Institute class together because it helps to build their relationship spiritually. For married students, continuing Institute attendance until graduation helps insure a well-balanced education. We do not provide childcare.
Are Boston Institute classes transferable to other institutes and to Church schools?
Yes and sometimes. All classes at the Boston Institute are fully transferable to other Institutes, and we in turn accept Institute credit earned anywhere in the world. Most of our classes can be accepted for credit at BYU, BYU-I, BYU-H, & LDSBC. Church school credit requires homework and a final. Church schools limit total religious transfer credit and limit which classes they will accept. Contact your (intended) school.
Can you tell me how many LDS students attend my school?
The number varies greatly each academic year. Generally, Harvard, MIT, Boston University, and Wellesley have the largest LDS communities of our area schools, however we usually have at least or one two students at most area schools. If you'd like to know about a specific school's LDS community, contact the Institute (bostonma@ldsces.org) and we'll get an answer and help you get in touch with the school's LDSSA President.
What is LDSSA?
The LDSSA is the Latter-day Saint Student Assocation. It is an on campus club of members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. LDSSA's are maintained as official campus clubs and run at the school level in accordance with the school policies. The LDSSA often provides places on campus for Family Home Evenings and Institute classes. As Boston has so many colleges, ranging from having no Church member to dozens of Church members, the LDSSA presence will depend on the particular school. Contact the Institute to find out the current LDSSA President of your school.
Do I have to attend the Institute in my stake or at my school?
You may attend Institute at whatever time and location is most convenient for you.
Is there a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lowell, Massachusetts? I will be visiting some families this weekend. I am hoping to attend if there is one nearby for me to attend.
Yes, The Heritage Park YSA Ward meets at 391,407,421 Princeton Blvd, Lowell, Ma 01851. Meeting time is 1:00p.m. Institute meets Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.pm.
I am still in high school (or under 18) may I participate in Institute?
High school seniors and those under 18 who are already out of high school are welcome to join us for our classes and activities. Although you are welcome at Institute, it is not appropriate to substitute Institute or Young Single Adult activities for seminary or your home ward Young Men's/Young Women's activities.
I'm staying in Las Vegas and was wondering where the singles ward is located.
There are four single adult wards meeting at the Episcopal Divinity School (EDS), 99 Brattle St, Cambridge, MA 02138.
