ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
How long has the Red Mountain institute been open?
The Red Mountain institute was actually established in the Fall of 2001. For the first year of its existence daytime classes were held at an LDS chapel located on Recker Road. Evening classes were held at the Red Mountain seminary building. All classes were subsequently moved to the beautiful new Red Mountain institute building located at 7126 E. McKellips Road beginning on October 21, 2002.
What is your current student enrollment?
Fall 2007 total enrollment was 625 students. Currently the MCC Red Mountain college has an enrollment around 4,000 students. The college anticipates a growth of 500 students per semester. Of course the institute will continue to grow as the college grows. It is expected in the future, perhaps in ten years, that institute enrollment will hit as high as 1,500. We are happy to be a part of this great facility.
What is the purpose of institute?
1. Teach students the gospel of Jesus Christ as found in the standard works and words of the prophets, 2. Teach students by precept and example so they will be encouraged, assisted, and protected as they strive to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, 3. Provide a spiritual and social climate where students can associate together, and 4. Prepare young people for effective Church service.
How do I register for a class? Does it cost anything to register?
One option would be to use this website and to register on-line. Another option would be to come on down to the institute and register here. You are welcome to register before classes begin or to register when you come to attend class for the first time. Thanks to a recent change in the way institute activities are funded, there is no charge to take an institute class.
Are there any singles ward meeting at the institute?
Currently there is one. The building is designed to meet the needs of singles wards. It is up to local stake presidents to determine when singles wards in the red mountain area are to be created and begin meeting at the institute for their worship services.
Can non-LDS students attend institute?
All young single adults between the ages of 18-30 are welcome to attend institute classes irregardless of religious affiliation; however, some classes may be better suited for non-LDS than others. Those interested should talk to one of the staff for suggestions as to which class to take.
What if I'm between the ages of 18-30 and married, can I still attend an institute class?
Not only is institute for all young single adults between the ages of 18-30, but all married college students and their spouses are also welcome to attend.

What if a student has to miss the first few weeks of class, can they still earn credit?
One of the requirements to earn credit is to attend class 75% of the time. Thus, a student can miss 8 daytime classes and 4 evening classes and still earn credit.

With the exception of just a few classes, all institute courses may be taken for credit that is transferrable to BYU, BYU-Idaho, of BYU-Hawaii. In addition to 75% attendance, a few other course requirements must be met in order for a grade to transfer to one of the Church colleges.
What is semester 1, 2, and 3??? How can I tell what classes are for the summer session and which are for the Fall?
I hope I can direct you in the right way.... Semester 1 is Fall, 2 is Spring, 3 is Summer. If you look closely at the registration process you will choose the semester before the classes appear (if I remember correctly). Anyway give it a try. sister Coombs
What is the range of ages for institute classes? Could a retired person attend institute classes?
Institute is for anyone age 18-30. It is also for students and their spouses. We have people attend that are older, but they should be enrolled in an educational class to do so. There are some continuing education classes available through various stakes throughout the area.
