Born into a
goodly family under the influence of the Chinese culture, I
have learned many wonderful teachings. However, I always
felt that there was something missing. Does life really have
significant and lasting meaning? I couldn’t get an answer to
this question from anyone or any books. When I heard of a
young man named Joseph Smith who saw God and Jesus Christ, I
felt a door was opened. I realized from his experience that
Jesus Christ is real. He is not just a wonderful concept as
declared by theologians or some thought only existing in our
hearts. I developed a strong testimony of the Prophet Joseph
Smith. I know that he is a prophet purposely chosen by God.
His First Vision happened back in 1820, but it is just as
important to me now as then. My life has been changed
because of it. Now I clearly know that I am a daughter of
God. And because of my relationship with God, my life has an
eternal purpose. My goal is to be like God someday. This
doctrine bears a deeper layer of meaning to people with
Chinese cultural background, because it helps us understand
that our esteemed ancestors can be with us again forever.
What a magnificent doctrine! When I realized that Joseph
Smith was also chosen to restore the priesthood, I was full
of great joy. I learned that through marrying a priesthood
holder, I can also have an eternal family that I can be with
together, forever.
As I grew up, the
Chinese culture had taught me many good theories and
philosophies. However, one thing that its five thousand
years of history could not provide for us was the gift of
the Holy Ghost. When receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, a
person is granted the privilege to have the constant
guidance from God to discern things which are right and
good. This is a great blessing for all Chinese people. I
believe that if anyone sincerely seeks God and Jesus Christ,
our Creator, he will be able to receive this gift. His life
will be connected to God through the pure and divine
knowledge that the Prophet Joseph Smith interpreted and
revealed to us.
