To accelerate the school’s prophetic mandate to prepare leaders for the world, specifically in the target regions of Asia and the Pacific, more students from these areas need an opportunity to attend and flourish at BYU–Hawaii. While the Church contributes a large percentage of the cost for every BYU–Hawaii student, an inability to pay the remaining tuition renders many deserving students unable to attend. Underdeveloped economies, individual family situations, and cultural bias prevent many students from enrolling. Legacy Scholarships address these issues and make coming to BYU–Hawaii a possibility for worthy students who desire to attend.
Speaking to those who financially support Church education efforts, President Gordon B. Hinckley said: “You never can foretell the consequences of a dollar invested in education. It goes on multiplying itself. It becomes not an expenditure, but an investment which pays returns far and wide and through generations to come.”
Added generations of strong families, uplifted communities, and a vibrant Church organization are important reasons to support scholarships at BYU–Hawaii.
