Funding Goal:
$1 million
What It Is
Preparing students to apply in workplace or graduate-school situations what has been demonstrated in their undergraduate studies is the purpose of the BYU–Idaho Student Research Fund (SRF). Through the SRF, interested students apply for funding to conduct research in art, language, science, business, or other disciplines taught on campus.
Why It Is a Priority
As BYU–Idaho increases efforts to better prepare an increasing number of students for success after graduation, programs such as SRF will become even more integral to the complete education the university provides. Opportunities for hands-on learning, such as conducting research and being mentored, prepare students to succeed in their endeavors.
Out-of-classroom learning is often costly and time-intensive. Increased funding for research will allow more students to have this beneficial learning experience; many would not otherwise have the opportunity. Donations are being sought to establish an endowment that will make funds for student research permanently available at BYU–Idaho.
What It Does and How It Helps
SRF encourages hands-on learning by providing students with the funds to purchase supplies, procure equipment, and afford the travel necessary to complete and present research. Graduates who have applied classroom learning to real-life situations are more likely to be hired because their experience is practical.
