Internships
Brigham Young University Idaho

What It Is
The BYU-Idaho Internship Program has been established to provide and oversee internship experiences for a large number of students in a variety of academic disciplines. Internships are required in certain majors, but many students wish to participate in internships to gain experience and opportunities. Combining academic rigor with relevant experience, internships allow students to observe and apply school-learned principles in real-work situations and to interact extensively with potential employers.

Why It Is a Priority
With a growing need in the world for individuals who can put principle and theory to practice, BYU-Idaho sees great value in making significantly more internships available to students. Internships offer unique learning opportunities and also give students a chance to explore career options. Since companies often hire from their intern pools, students also establish contacts that may lead to future employment. Employers benefit by having hardworking, honest, and capable students in their organizations. BYU-Idaho interns have received great praise from participating employers, helping to establish a solid reputation for the program.

What It Does and How It Helps
Interns are frequently paid for their work, depending on the employer and the nature of the internship. However, while paid internships are ideal, companies and organizations often provide only volunteer opportunities or minimal financial benefits. Also, many internships require out-of-state or international placement, requiring significant funding. Recognizing the worth of providing various types of internships, BYU-Idaho has established this fund to provide a stipend for those students on volunteer internships who are in need of money for college. Your contributions will support such students, make invaluable learning opportunities possible, and better prepare students for future careers.

How Giving Is Helping
Internships

Internships in Hub and Focus Cities Extend the Boundaries of Learning

According to President Kim B. Clark, internships are an integral part of the educational experience at Brigham Young University–Idaho. In his 10 years as dean of Harvard Business School, he saw some of the finest MBA students in the world move into the world of work and witnessed how internships, in his words, “develop and nurture talent.”

Thousands of BYU–Idaho students are gaining developmental experiences in almost every state and nearly 40 countries. BYU–Idaho interns are quickly gaining a widespread reputation as being pleasant, hard-working, and ethical.

To extend the boundaries of learning and provide meaningful opportunities, the Academic Internship Program is focusing efforts in select locations called hub cities.   Full Story
