President Shumway Called to Preside over Tonga Temple This Fall

Sister and President Shumway BYU-Hawaii President Eric B. Shumway announced to his President's Council on February 2 that the First Presidency recently called him and his wife, Carolyn Merrill Shumway, to serve as president and matron, respectively, of the Nuku'alofa Tonga Temple, starting in fall 2007.

BYU-H Choir Presents First Concert in China

China Concert URUMQI, Xinjiang, China — Over 5,000 people filled the new multipurpose Xinjiang University Gymnasium on May 10 to hear the BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir give its first public performance in this far-western Chinese city.

ITEP: Expanding Teacher Training Efforts

ITEP Since 1991 the Church Educational System (CES) and BYU–Hawaii have worked together to provide well-trained, qualified teachers for Church schools in the Pacific Islands. Their joint effort now includes 15 schools, 400 teachers, and 6,000 students in the islands of Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Kiribati, and New Zealand. In those countries BYU–Hawaii’s International Teacher Education Program (ITEP) provides education courses, inservice training and workshops, other degree courses, and now, through a generous gift from Ira and Mary Lou Fulton, computer labs in Tonga.
