Convert Plans to Return to Tanzania with Education and Experience

Leonard Few people travel across hemispheres to gain an education so they can return home to make a difference in an emerging economy. But that’s exactly what Leonard Kalimasi is doing. Leaving Tanzania on the east coast of Africa in 2004, Leonard came to BYU-Idaho to start his college education.

Shawnee Most high school seniors would jump at the opportunity to get a college education, especially if they could do so on scholarship. Shawnee Lubeck felt incredibly blessed when she received not one, but two full-ride scholarships from two different institutions. So what did she do? She turned them both down and decided to attend BYU-Idaho instead.

Internships and Financial Aid Prepare Student for Medical School

DavidBaird David Baird had three main reasons for attending BYU-Idaho: convenience, money, and ballroom dance. With BYU-Idaho only 30 minutes from his hometown and having received a full-tuition scholarship, it didn’t make sense to go anywhere else. But after four years of school and a two-year mission to Russia, David discovered that the experience and education gained at BYU-Idaho helped prepare him for medical school

College Opportunity Multiplies Earning Potential

Jared Ulmer Jared Ulmer has done the calculations. He’s discovered an average $20,000 difference in the first-year annual salary of a high school graduate and that of a college graduate. He’s also discovered another $20,000 gap between the first-year salaries of a bachelor’s degree recipient and a master’s degree recipient. It puts his remaining schooling in perspective. “In just two-and-a-half more years I will have multiplied my earning power by tens of thousands of dollars,” he said. “In my eyes, the return on my educational investment is incomparable.”

While Jared is planning well for his financial future, his financial journey to get to that point has sometimes been difficult. Despite saving since the age of eight, he’s needed a little help along the path to graduation.
