Exciting Changes and a Consistent Focus
Exciting changes are underway for LDS Business College. On October 8, 2003, the Church announced that a new campus facility, shared with the Brigham Young University-Salt Lake City Extension, will be built downtown. It will be located on 300 West, between North Temple Street and South Temple Street.
After making the most of the beautiful Enos Wall Mansion for 42 good years, it is wonderful to see the Brethren's confidence in the longevity of the college and have our growing needs met in this way. We have been pushing the limits of our current facilities the last few years as we serve ever more and more students. In 2003, we had a headcount of 1,274 students, taking us to just over a 12 percent increase in enrollment since 2002. How thrilling to be blessing so many young people!
Shortly after the surprising announcement in October, we began working diligently-yet circumspectly-with Church and BYU leaders on just how this project will be accomplished. We are currently in the preliminary planning stages. President Gordon B. Hinckley has urged us to be efficient in making it happen sooner rather than later, and we are certainly heeding that charge.
Further verification of the college's promising future also came recently. I am pleased to report that after careful internal and external analysis, we have received renewed accreditation with high commendations.
Amidst all this significant progress, our focus continues to be our individual attention to each student as we prepare him or her for careers. While we attract a spectrum of young men and women, we persist in paying special attention to those students who may lack strong academic confidence or experience.
Yes, my report on the state of the college is overwhelmingly optimistic. We have every reason to express gratitude to an omnipotent Father in Heaven for His never-ceasing guidance. Our devoted faculty and staff continue to inspire students from across the country and world-young men and women who have special purposes in coming to the college. Alumni and friends are stepping forward to offer philanthropic support and accelerate the all-important work we are about.
Finally, we recognize that all the progress we are making is for the good of the students of LDS Business College. We are doing more than providing highly effective instruction and marketable degrees; we are assisting in changing lives for generations.
