6. Seeking to Know God, Our Heavenly Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ

Robert D. Hales

Even so, as members of the restored Church of Jesus Christ, we declare that “we believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.”1 Some wonder, why is belief in God so important? God further taught, “By mine Only Begotten [Son] I created these things.”6 The Father and the Son are separate and distinct individuals—as any father and son always are.

7. Love and Law

Dallin H. Oaks

The love of God does not supersede His laws and His commandments, and the effect of God’s laws and commandments does not diminish the purpose and effect of His love. In other words, the kingdom of glory to which the Final Judgment assigns us is not determined by love but by the law that God has invoked in His plan to qualify us for eternal life, “the greatest of all the gifts of God” (D&C 14:7).

10. “Till We Meet Again”

Gordon B. Hinckley

God be with you till we meet again. And now as we close this conference, even though we shall have a benediction, I should like to offer a brief prayer in these circumstances: O God, our Eternal Father, Thou great Judge of the Nations, Thou who art the governor of the universe, Thou who art our Father and our God, whose children we are, we look to Thee in faith in this dark and solemn time.

11. Our Duty to God: The Mission of Parents and Leaders to the Rising Generation

Robert D. Hales

Throughout my life as a father and grandfather, I have pondered the question, what is my duty to God in relation to the youth? Heavenly Father does His work in the long term. “There is much which lieth in futurity,” the Prophet Joseph Smith said. “Therefore, … let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed” (D&C 123:15, 17).

14. Faith and the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood

Henry B. Eyring

God promises you the help and power which, if you exercise faith, will give you success. I felt that God was my heavenly Father indeed; that Jesus was my brother, and that the wife of my bosom was an immortal, eternal companion; a kind ministering angel, given to me as a comfort, and a crown of glory for ever and ever.”6 I am a personal witness that priesthood service pursued in faith has such an effect in changing our hearts and our feelings.

17. He Is Risen!

Thomas S. Monson

Our Father knew that because of the nature of mortality, we would be tempted, would sin, and would fall short. From His parched lips came the words, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”11 As the serenity and solace of a merciful death freed Him from the sorrows of mortality, He returned to the presence of His Father.

Henry B. Eyring

He said that he read in James, “Let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” 8 His faith to ask of God in prayer came after pondering a scripture which assured him of God’s loving nature. He prayed, as we must, with faith in a loving God.
