Many of the Pharisees were afraid of the Apostles. They thought miracles would stop when Jesus died. But the Apostles did miracles like Jesus did. Many people believed in Jesus and joined the Church.

Many people made trouble for the Church. The leaders of the Jews put Peter and John in prison. The king had the Apostle James killed.

The Apostles called other men to help lead the Church. One of these men was Stephen. He was a righteous man. He was filled with the Holy Ghost. He did many miracles. He taught the gospel to many people.

Stephen told the Pharisees they were wicked. He said they killed Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The Pharisees were angry. They took Stephen out of the city to kill him. They laid their coats by a young Pharisee named Paul. They threw stones at Stephen to kill him.

Acts 7:57–58

Stephen was dying. He looked up into heaven. He was filled with the Holy Ghost. He saw Heavenly Father and Jesus. He asked Jesus to take his spirit to heaven. Then he died.
