When some people pray, they say the same words over and over. They do not think about what they say. Jesus said people should not say the same words over and over when they pray. They should think about what they say. They should pray for things they need.

Jesus showed the disciples how to pray. He said a prayer for them. He began his prayer by saying, “Our Father … in Heaven.” He thanked Heavenly Father. He asked Heavenly Father for help. He said “Amen” at the end of his prayer. Later Jesus told his disciples to pray in his name. Then Heavenly Father would answer their prayers. If people pray, Heavenly Father will bless them.

Matthew 6:9–13; John 16:23; Luke 11:5–10; DNTC, 1:233–37
