Jesus’ body was in the tomb three days. On Sunday morning two angels came from heaven. They moved the rock away from the tomb.

Luke 24:1–4; Matthew 28:1–2

A woman named Mary Magdalene came to the tomb. She was a friend of Jesus. She saw that the rock was not in front of the tomb. Jesus’ body was not in the tomb.

John 20:1–2

Mary Magdalene ran to find Peter and John. She told them someone had taken Jesus’ body. She did not know where it was.

John 20:2

Peter and John ran to the tomb. John looked into the tomb. He saw the cloth Jesus was buried in. But Jesus was not there.

John 20:3–7

Peter and John did not know what had happened to Jesus. They went home. Mary Magdalene stayed by the tomb. She was crying. She looked into the tomb. The two angels were in the tomb.

John 20:9–12

The angels asked Mary Magdalene why she was crying. She said someone had taken Jesus’ body away. She did not know where it was.

John 20:13

Mary Magdalene turned around and saw Jesus. She did not know he was Jesus. She thought he was the gardener. Jesus asked Mary Magdalene why she was crying. He asked who she was looking for. Mary Magdalene still thought he was the gardener.

John 20:14–15

Jesus said, “Mary.” Then Mary Magdalene knew he was Jesus. He asked her to tell the Apostles he was resurrected.

John 20:16–17

Mary Magdalene went to the Apostles. She told them what Jesus had said. She told them she had seen Jesus. He was resurrected. The Apostles did not believe her.

John 20:18; Luke 24:11

Later the Apostles were talking to each other. Jesus came into the room. The Apostles were afraid. They thought Jesus was dead.

Jesus asked why they were afraid. He told them to touch his hands and feet. Jesus was resurrected. His body and spirit had come together again. He was alive again.

The Apostles were happy to see Jesus. He asked them for some food. They gave him some fish and some honey. He ate it.

Jesus was the first person to be resurrected. Many other people were resurrected after Jesus. Many people saw them.
