Jesus went to Jerusalem. He went to the temple. Many people went to the temple to make sacrifices. They made a sacrifice by killing an animal and burning it on an altar. The sacrifice helped people think about the Savior. He would suffer and die for them.

Leviticus 1:3–9; Moses 5:5–7; John 2:13

Some people did not have an animal to sacrifice. There were men who sold animals to them. The men sold the animals in the temple. They wanted to get money. They did not think about God.

Jesus saw the men selling the animals in the temple. He said the temple was his Heavenly Father’s house. He wanted his Heavenly Father’s house to be a holy place. Jesus did not want the men to sell things in his Heavenly Father’s house.

John 2:16; DNTC, 1:137–38
