Church Provides Work, Feeds Hungry
September 27, 2001 — Church in the News
The Church operates a large welfare services program in Mesa, Arizona, including storage facilities, a cannery, and a bishops' storehouse. There are currently three large grain silos which hold about 50,000 bushels each; the Church hopes to expand that capacity with additional silos. The article describes the Church's welfare program as "a sophisticated system that provides food for the hungry, stores it for disasters and helps other food banks." A representative from the United Food Bank in Mesa expressed gratitude for the assistance his group receives from the Church.
