Bishops' Storehouse Helps Those in Need
November 28, 2001 — Church in the News
Members in Greensboro, North Carolina are taking food storage seriously--not just for themselves, but for those under their stewardship. Since 11 September, the bishops' storehouse has noticed a sharp increase in demands. A struggling economy and post-11 September nervousness have combined to make this fall one of the busiest ever for the storehouse. "At the cannery, we can't keep up," says volunteer Gib Halliburton. Each day, the storehouse receives dozens of orders for emergency food shipments. Each order, most of them faxed to the storehouse, includes a grocery "wish list" for members in need. Members in the area are also encouraged to be self-sufficient by canning their own food at the local cannery and storing one year's supply.
