The Lord Has a Great Work for Each of Us

FaustJE_95-99.jpg

“The Lord has a great work for each of us to do. You may wonder how this can be. You may feel that there is nothing special or superior about you or your ability. . . . The Lord can do remarkable miracles with a person of ordinary ability who is humble, faithful, and diligent in serving the Lord and seeks to improve himself. This is because God is the ultimate source of power.”

James E. Faust, “Acting for Ourselves and Not Being Acted Upon,” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 47

It Is Time to Be Prepared

PerryLT_04.jpg

“We live in a most exciting and challenging period in human history. As technology sweeps through every facet of our lives, changes are occurring so rapidly that it can be difficult for us to keep our lives in balance. To maintain some semblance of stability in our lives, it is essential that we plan for our future. I believe it is time, and perhaps with some urgency, to review the counsel we have received in dealing with our personal and family preparedness. We want to be found with oil in our lamps sufficient to endure to the end.”

L. Tom Perry, “If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear,’” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 35

The Protection of the Priesthood

HalesRD_03_rgb.jpg

“The priesthood of God gives light to his children in this dark and troubled world. Through priesthood power we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to lead us to truth, testimony, and revelation. This gift is available on an equal basis to men, women, and children. Through the blessings of the priesthood, we can be equipped with ‘the whole armour of God, that [we] may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil’ (see Eph. 6:11–18). This protection is available to every one of us.”

Stand as a Witness

DunnLC_85-99.jpg

“Every person who receives baptism into the Church and has received and felt the confirmation of the Spirit through the gift of the Holy Ghost stands as a witness ‘of God at all times and in all things, and in all places’ (Mosiah 18:9).”

Love Is the Most Powerful Force in the World

OaksDH_04_rgb.jpg

“The eternal truth that our Heavenly Father loves all his children is an immensely powerful idea. It is especially powerful when children can visualize it through the love and sacrifice of their earthly parents. Love is the most powerful force in the world.”

Dallin H. Oaks, “Powerful Ideas,” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 25

Becoming Submissive

MaxwellNA_90-99.jpg

“As one’s will is increasingly submissive to the will of God, he can receive inspiration and revelation so much needed to help meet the trials of life. In the trying and very defining Isaac episode, faithful Abraham ‘staggered not . . . through unbelief’ (Rom. 4:20).”

Neal A. Maxwell, “Swallowed Up in the Will of the Father,’” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 23–24

No One Wants Adversity

ScottRG_04_rgb.jpg

“No one wants adversity. Trials, disappointments, sadness, and heartache come to us from two basically different sources. Those who transgress the laws of God will always have those challenges. The other reason for adversity is to accomplish the Lord’s own purposes in our life that we may receive the refinement that comes from testing. It is vitally important for each of us to identify from which of these two sources come our trials and challenges, for the corrective action is very different.”

Richard G. Scott, “Trust in the Lord,” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 16

If You Desire to Know

HinckleyGB_95-99_rgb.jpg

“The marvelous and wonderful thing is that any individual who desires to know the truth may receive that conviction. The Lord Himself gave the formula when He said, ‘If any man will do [the will of the Father], he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself’ (John 7:17).”

Gordon B. Hinckley, “Faith: The Essence of True Religion,” Ensign, Oct. 1995, 5

There Is Room for All

OaksDH_04_rgb.jpg

“The degree of difficulty and the pattern necessary to forgo behavior and to control thoughts will be different with different individuals, but the message of hope and the hand of fellowship offered by the Church is the same for all who strive.”

Dallin H. Oaks, “Same-Gender Attraction,” Ensign, Oct. 1995, 13

Appreciate Revealed Truths

BallardMR_04_rgb.jpg

“We need to embrace, study, and appreciate the revealed truths that are ours. We need to declare the gospel generously and kindly to all of our Father's children.”

M. Russell Ballard, “Marvelous Are the Revelations of the Lord,” Ensign, May 1998, 33
