Jesus went to Nazareth. Nazareth was the city where he grew up.

Luke 4:16

Jesus went to a Jewish church meeting. He stood up and read from the Bible. He read what the prophet Isaiah wrote. Isaiah said the Savior would come to earth. The Savior would help all people.

Jesus sat down after he read Isaiah’s words. The Jews looked at Jesus. They did not know why he read Isaiah’s words. They waited for Jesus to tell them why.

Jesus said Isaiah’s words were about him. He was the Savior. The people were surprised. They did not believe Jesus was the Savior. They thought he was Joseph’s son. They did not know he was the Son of God.

Jesus knew what the people were thinking. He knew they did not believe he was the Savior. He knew they wanted him to show them a miracle. But Jesus told them he would not. He would not do miracles for people who did not have faith.

The people were angry. They did not believe Jesus was the Savior. They took him up to the top of a hill. They wanted to throw him off the hill.

Luke 4:28–29

But they could not throw him off the hill. They could not hurt him. Jesus walked away from them.
