The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

What: The Palmyra New York Temple is the 77th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple has approximately 10,700 square feet of floor space and includes a celestial room, two endowment rooms seating 40 people in each room, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The exterior is white marble. Specially designed art glass windows inside the temple depict Joseph Smith's First Vision. Cherry wood is used in one of the two endowment rooms, as well as throughout the hallways in the temple. The spire is topped by a gold statue of the angel Moroni (Mo-RONE-eye).
Where: The temple is located in Palmyra, New York. Its mailing address is 2720 Temple Road, Palmyra, New York, 14522.
Why: The temple is considered a "house of the Lord" where the Savior's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism, and other sacred ordinances focusing on the eternal potential of family relationships.
When:

Plans for the temple were announced February 9, 1999 by the First Presidency of the Church. Groundbreaking services were held on May 25, 1999.

A public open house will be held Saturday, March 25, 2000 through Friday, March 31, 2000 (excluding Sunday, March 26), with an additional half day on April 1, 2000. The temple will be formally dedicated Thursday, April 6, 2000.

Who: The temple will primarily serve over 17,700 members of the Church in New York.
