CES Fireside for Young Adults
Elder W. Rolfe Kerr of the Seventy will speak at a CES fireside for young adults this Sunday on the subject of withstanding temptation. It will be the first of five firesides sponsored by the Church Educational System scheduled to take place in 2006.
Elder Kerr has served as the Commissioner of Church Education since January 2005. In this assignment, he directs the Church's institutions of higher education, including Brigham Young University, BYU–Idaho, BYU–Hawaii, and LDS Business College; the Church's seminary and institute of religion programs; and a number of Church-operated elementary and secondary schools.
Elder Kerr attended Utah State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture. He later received a master's degree in marriage and family relations and a doctorate in education. He has served as the Utah Commissioner of Higher Education, executive vice president of Brigham Young University, and president of Dixie College in St. George, Utah. He has also held administrative positions at the University of Utah, Utah State University, and Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
“My career has been primarily focused on the age groups served by CES,” Elder Kerr stated. “I love education, and I love youth” (Ensign, Apr. 2005, 74).
He will be speaking directly to that youthful audience this Sunday. Across 140 countries, more than one million CES students are enrolled in Church universities and colleges, seminaries and institutes of religion, and continuing education programs, and many of them will hear his address entitled “Withstand Every Temptation of the Devil.”
The fireside will take place February 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University and will be transmitted live over the Church satellite system with subsequent rebroadcasts to many areas of the world. The audio stream can be heard online at www.lds.org/broadcast/ces/0,7341,395,00.html in 22 different languages.
