General Young Women Meeting Set for Saturday
By Brittany Karford, Church Magazines
Saturday's general Young Women meeting will be an opportunity for young women worldwide to hear messages just for them directly from a member of the First Presidency and members of the Young Women general presidency.
Counsel that young women are sure to hear is that they need to “be worthy of the guidance of the Holy Ghost,” Elaine S. Dalton, second counselor in the Young Women general presidency, told the Church magazines.
The presidency hopes to convey this message in Saturday’s meeting, inviting all young women ages 12 to 18, their mothers, and Young Women leaders to attend the live broadcast in their chapels and stake centers wherever possible. The theme of the meeting is “Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations” (D&C 115:5), and will focus on the light of the Savior.
“He is the source of all light,” Sister Dalton said, adding that young women can make a difference in the world by sharing this light in every setting they are in. They can influence young men, their friends of other faiths, their family, and even strangers by their example, standards, and testimonies, she said. “Now is the time for all young women to arise and shine. It is a time to lead.”
In preparation for the meeting, the Young Women general presidency asks young women, their mothers, and leaders to read and ponder “The Living Christ” in addition to daily prayer and scripture study. They hope each young woman will use her Personal Progress journal to record thoughts and promptings that come to her during the meeting.
“We pray for each young woman,” Sister Dalton said. “We know how much our Heavenly Father loves each one.”
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. mountain standard time on Saturday, March 25, and will be broadcast live in various languages, with subsequent rebroadcasts to respective areas of the world.
