Joseph Smith Commemoration Links

In recognition of the 200th anniversary of the Prophet Joseph Smith's birth, which the Church commemorated on December 23, 2005, the following resources are available through LDS.org:

  • JosephSmith.net—An official Church Web site that provides stories, research articles, quotes, and other historical information about the Prophet Joseph, as well as photographs, paintings, and archive documents. For more details about the site, see a related article in News from the Church.

  • "The Worlds of Joseph Smith"—Audio and video archives of an international academic conference held at the Library of Congress in May 2005.

  • Joseph Smith Commemorative Broadcast Archives—This broadcast originated in the Conference Center on December 23, 2005, with a coordinating broadcast from Sharon, Vermont. The broadcast featured words of tribute from the First Presidency and music from the Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square.

  • DVD of Joseph Smith Commemorative Program—A DVD of this event is now available through Church distribution centers. In addition to containing the entirety of the program in English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Samoan, Spanish, Tahitian, and Tongan, this DVD also features images of art, artifacts, and important sites related to the Prophet's life (text for these features is in English only).

  • Joseph Smith The Prophet of the Restoration—This new film about the life and legacy of Joseph Smith, founding prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is being shown in the Legacy Theater of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. (This film is also being shown at many Church visitors' centers and historic sites in the United States, Mexico, and New Zealand.)
