Church callings give us opportunities to serve others and grow in the gospel. When called to serve in the Church, we should strive to develop certain qualities and attributes. In 1 Timothy 3 we read what the Lord expects of bishops and deacons. As you study this chapter, find ways in which Paul’s counsel could help you serve better in your own callings.

1 Timothy 3:11–12—Married Deacons?
In Paul’s day, and also in the early days of the restored Church, deacons were adult men, who could be married, who held the Aaronic Priesthood. The Lord, through His prophets, has since extended the privilege of holding the Aaronic Priesthood to worthy young men twelve years of age and older.

Read 1 Timothy 3 and look for the Lord’s expectations of His bishops. Why do you think a bishop should meet these requirements?
