Draw a line down the middle of a page in your notebook. On the left side, draw a picture of a person surrounded by what he or she might find valuable and important in life. On the right side, write or draw a picture of what a person will be able to take with him or her at death. UsingDoctrine and Covenants 130:18–19, write a caption or slogan for your picture that expresses what we ought to be gaining in this life that will still be valuable in the next life.
Scripture Mastery—Doctrine and Covenants 130:20–21
InDoctrine and Covenants 130:20–21, the Prophet Joseph Smith explained that there is a relationship between our obedience to God’s laws and the blessings we receive. Some commandments have very specific promises, such as the promises associated with living the Word of Wisdom (D&C 89). For other commandments the promises are more general (for example, Joshua 1:8). List three other commandments and the blessings that are promised for each one. Indicate whether the promises are specific or more general. If you need help, discuss this with your parents or a Church leader.
Scripture Mastery—Doctrine and Covenants 130:22–23
The truths taught inDoctrine and Covenants 130:22–23may m natural and logical to long-time members of the Church. However, this doctrine is very different from the beliefs of most other Christian churches. List and explain three ways that your life—such as your thoughts, behavior, and prayers—is different because you know what the Godhead is really like.
