Doctrine and Covenants 34:1—Orson Pratt
Orson Pratt was baptized on September 19, 1830, his 19th birthday, after hearing the gospel message from his older brother Parley P. Pratt. They were both called to be Apostles when the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was organized in 1835. Like his brother, Orson Pratt served many missions for the Church (D&C 34heading, 1–10; 52:26; 75:14; 103:40; 124:127–29; 136:13). He also wrote many books on religious and scientific subjects and was the first pioneer to arrive in the Salt Lake Valley. He was an Apostle for over 45 years, until his death in 1881.
