Barlow Bradford was appointed Director of the Orchestra at Temple Square and Associate Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May of 1999.
As Artistic Director of Utah Chamber Artists and Director of Orchestras at the University of Utah he was regularly heard in concert halls as conductor, pianist, arranger, and composer. Reviews of his work with Utah Chamber Artists speak of his "exceptional conducting ability," his "consummate musicianship" and ability "to raise musicality to new heights." As founder of Utah Chamber Artists, Bradford has led the choral/orchestral organization to international acclaim, being hailed as "a most remarkable choir," with "a sound that is luscious indeed," having the ability to elicit both "moving and spiritual feelings." As a conductor, he has performed and recorded with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Utah Symphony, and Utah Chamber Artists. As a composer/arranger his music has been performed and recorded by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Symphony, and Utah Chamber Artists. As a pianist, his performances have been heard throughout the United States and England in the concert hall, on radio, and national television.
Dr. Bradford received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California where he was awarded the Kodolfsky Graduate Fellowship, the Music Faculty Endowed Scholarship, the Leo Podolsky Piano Performance Award, the Mary Van Lear Memorial Scholarship, and was voted by the faculty to be "Most Outstanding Student" in both Conducting and Keyboard Collaborative Arts. His teachers and mentors include Gustav Meier, Daniel Lewis, Nina Svetlanova, Kevin Fitz-Gerald, Gladys Gladstone, Lennox Larsen, and Robert Cundick.
A native of Midvale, Utah, Dr. Bradford currently lives in the Salt Lake area with his wife, violinist Jean Bradford, and their four children.
