Alcohol on Medals Plaza
The Gazette (Colorado Springs), 18 February 2002
Misstatement:
In referring to the Church's donation for the Medals Plaza, "There was a caveat: The plaza would have to be alcohol-free. In keeping with Mormons' prohibition on booze."
Fact:
The only caveat that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints placed on the use of the land for the Olympic Medals Plaza was that tickets to plaza events be free. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee made the decision to keep the venue alcohol free to provide a family atmosphere and for security reasons.
