Autumn's Gold, Davis County

The pure landscape without the buildings of farm habitation is one of Stewart's basic subjects comprising what he called "The Spirit of Landscape." While not inclined to produce much artwork in the summer, Stewart began working in earnest toward the middle of October. This example and many others like it were, unbelievably, finished in a few hours. His technique of wet–on–wet oil painting is uncanny at capturing the interaction of the rich autumn colors.
