"King David" is a "Symphonic Psalm in 3 parts" based on a drama by
Rene Morax. Honegger, a French composer, composed and conducted the first
performance of "King David" in 1921. This very accessible work is an
eclectic one and by Honegger’s own admission reflects the influences of Bach,
Stravinsky, Massenet and Ravel. The first part tells of David’s choosing by
Samuel and his battle against the Philistines. The second re-creates the crowning
of David and the third deals with his kingship, the deaths of Absalom and David
and finally the coronation of Solomon. This production will be performed in
English.
