SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency has announced an annual Pioneer Day
Commemoration to be held in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. This year's
commemoration will be held on Sunday, 22 July. The event, featuring an address
by President Gordon B. Hinckley and a program of music and narration, will begin
at 6:00 p.m., MDT. The program will be broadcast via the church satellite
system.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will combine to
perform music rich in the tradition of the pioneer heritage. The program will
include numbers such as "Yes, My Native Land," "Faith in Every
Footstep" and "Come, Come, Ye Saints." Lloyd Newell, who
announces the weekly Music and the Spoken Word broadcast, will narrate
the program. President Hinckley's remarks will conclude the commemoration.
Free tickets will be available to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. on
Friday, 15 June, at three Utah locations:
- Conference Center ticket office, Salt Lake City
- Harris Fine Arts Center ticket office, Brigham Young University campus,
Provo
- Ogden Tabernacle
Admittance to the Conference Center is available to those 8 years of age and
older. Ticket offices will offer a maximum of four tickets per person. When all
regular tickets are distributed, standby tickets will be available at the same
locations.
On the day of the program, Conference Center doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
Regular ticket holders must be seated by 5:30 p.m., after which standby ticket
holders will be offered vacant seats.
Those attending the Pioneer Day Commemoration in the Conference Center should
remember that cameras, recording devices, backpacks, food and beverages are not
allowed in the building.
The program will be carried via satellite live throughout the
United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Members of the Church wishing to view
the program via satellite should contact their local leaders for exact broadcast
or playback times in their areas.
