Adoption Workshops and Info Fair This Friday, Saturday
25 July 2001

SALT LAKE CITY — Families Supporting Adoption (FSA), a national organization sponsored by LDS Family Services, is hosting its third annual conference on 27 and 28 July at Brigham Young University. The theme of this year's conference is "Adoption ... it's about love." Activities will include workshops on various adoption topics, a display room with adoption information and the annual Adoption Hall of Fame banquet. Approximately 500 people from all parts of the country will be participating.

On Saturday, 28 July, there will be 16 workshops covering the many aspects of adoption. The workshops range from the latest information on infertility to telling your child about his or her adoption. There will also be a training session helping local FSA chapters heighten adoption awareness in their respective states.

At the Friday banquet, a highlight of the conference, Adoption Hall of Fame Awards are presented to those who have made a significant contribution to adoption. This year's Adoption Hall of Fame Award will be presented to the musical composer Michael McLean for his composition of three songs that support the positive nature of adoption. He will be performing these songs at the banquet. William S. Pierce, founder and retired president of the National Council for Adoption, will also be presented with a Hall of Fame Award for his efforts as an advocate for adoption in many countries. Past recipients of this award have been President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Elder Harold Brown, former commissioner of LDS Family Services and current managing director of Welfare Services for the Church.

FSA was established by LDS Family Services in 1996 and now has 55 chapters throughout the United States. The purpose of FSA is to advocate a positive view of adoption and provide support to birth parents, adoptive families and others through outreach, legislation, media and education.
