Easy-to-Use Electronic Scriptures Include Official Study Aids

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released its first authorized CD-ROM edition of the scriptures. The new electronic edition allows computer users to search, print or copy scriptural texts, as well as approved study guides, maps and photos.

"This new edition is intended to help individuals and families enhance their study of the scriptures," said Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. "As families use this new computer tool to search the scriptures and study gospel principles, their faith will increase, testimonies will grow and family ties will be strengthened."

Simple and easy to use, this complete scripture resource is designed to accommodate users of all ages. With hot links to the scripture study aids, individual daily study is enriched and parents can readily teach their children about scriptural events using maps and photos as visual aids. Basic search functions provide rapid access to broad topics or specific passages, making lesson and talk preparation faster and more insightful.

The Scriptures: CD-ROM Standard Edition 1.0 contains the full text of the Church's authorized scriptures in English, along with all of the official study aids. It also contains the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price in French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Future editions of the CD-ROM may include more languages as they become available.

Study aids available in all five languages include the Guide to the Scriptures—a topical compilation of cross references and definitions—along with chapter headings, footnotes, selections from the Joseph Smith Translation, maps and photographs. The Topical Guide and Bible Dictionary are available only in English.

A quick reference booklet included with the CD explains how to perform basic functions such as searching, selecting view options and getting help tips.

The Scriptures: CD-ROM Standard Edition 1.0 may be purchased for $5 through local ward clerks, at local Church distribution centers, on the Internet at www.ldscatalog.com or by calling 1-800-537-5971 (for the United States and Canada only).

Minimum system requirements: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP; Pentium 133 processor; 16 MB RAM; 50 MB hard disk space; 4X CD-ROM drive; and SVGA monitor.
