Program Flexibility

Flexibility within the Young Women Program

Every young woman, even if she is the only young woman in her ward or branch, should have the opportunity to participate in the Young Women auxiliary.

In a small ward or branch, leadership for the Young Women organization could consist of only a Young Women president. She could combine the age-groups and plan all lessons and activities. Lessons could be chosen from the manuals approved for Young Women curriculum (identified in curriculum instructions sent to priesthood leaders) or, where these manuals are not available, from Gospel Principles. Counselors, a secretary, advisers, and other leaders may be called when the need arises and qualified sisters are available. As the number of young women increases, additional leaders may be called.

Each young woman should be given a Personal Progress book and encouraged to participate in that program. Each young woman should also be given a copy of For the Strength of Youth and the young women theme and be encouraged to learn and live these standards.

Young Women activities might be coordinated with ward or branch activities, family activities, and (where applicable) CES activities. When possible, participation in stake or district activities could give young women in small units the opportunity to interact with a greater number of young women and young men.
