Introduction to Young Women

“If young women know of God's love for them, it will influence and shape all of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They will understand they have a mission to perform in this life. They will have confidence in their ability to make responsible, righteous decisions. They will be able to resist temptation, to flee from worldly things, to dress modestly as is becoming of a divine daughter of God. Because they understand their true identity, they will be able to reach out in love to others, also recogizing the divinity in them. The Spirit witnesses to our spirits that we are children of God. They will learn to recognize that Spirit, so they can rely upon it for guidance and comfort. This knowledge of God's love and divine parenthood will sustain them through life's inevitable transitions and trials." — Susan W. Tanner, Young Women general president

The Young Women auxiliary assists parents and priesthood leaders in helping each young woman “come unto Christ” (Moroni 10:32) and prepare to become a worthy wife, mother, and homemaker. Through Sunday meetings, Mutual, and Personal Progress, the Young Women auxiliary helps each young woman grow spiritually and strengthens her in her family.

In all efforts in the Young Women auxiliary, our purpose is to help young women:

  • Understand their identity as a daughter of God and future wife, mother, and homemaker. “Thou art my son . . . and I have a work for thee . . . thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten” (Moses 1:4, 6).
  • Learn to recognize and rely upon the Spirit. “But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost . . . shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance” (John 14:26).
  • Prepare temporally and spiritually to transition into their future roles. “Organize yourselves, prepare every needful thing” (D&C 109:8).
  • Keep their baptismal covenants and be prepared to make temple covenants. “Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?” (Mosiah 18:10).
