"There has never been a time in these latter days like today, when the message is being brought forward so strongly by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to have parents along with bishops and priesthood and auxiliary leaders make sure you . . . understand who you are and what you can become—not only here in mortality but for the eternities that will follow." — Elder Robert D. Hales, "Fulfilling Our Duty to God," Ensign, Nov. 2001, 39 The Young Women Personal Progress program helps each young woman understand God’s will for her, encourages her to keep His commandments, and prepares her to make and keep sacred covenants. It provides ways for her to contribute to her home now and prepare for future responsibilities as a faithful woman, wife, mother, and Church leader. The program teaches a young woman how to make commitments, carry them out, and report her progress to a parent or leader. These are patterns she will use throughout her life to learn and improve as a woman. The Young Women program has offered a variety of achievement programs throughout its history. The current Young Women Personal Progress book was introduced in December of 2001. Instructions on how to implement the Personal Progress program are contained in the Guidebook for Parents and Leaders of Youth. The Young Men have a similar program entitled Aaronic Priesthood Duty to God.
