“And behold, he preached the word unto your fathers and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved.” ~ Alma 5:13 “When a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men.” ~ 2 Nephi 33:1 Spiritual preparation contributes much to the learning atmosphere in the home or classroom. When leaders are prepared spiritually, they bring a spirit of peace, love, and reverence. Those they teach feel more secure in pondering and discussing things of eternal worth (see Teaching, No Greater Call, 79). Leaders are encouraged to use the scriptures as one of their primary resources to support the lessons in the manual. President Gordon B. Hinckley said: “The truest source of divine wisdom is the word of the Lord in these sacred volumes, the standard works of the Church. Here is found the doctrine to which we must hold fast if this work is to roll forth to its divinely charted destiny” (quoted in Teaching, No Greater Call, 54). Young Women age-groups (Beehive, Mia Maid, and Laurel) normally meet separately for Sunday classes and instruction, but they may be combined when few young women live in the unit. In units using the basic curriculum and where there are not sufficient adult leaders, young women may meet with the Relief Society. Leaders may invite the young women to help teach some lessons. Instructions about approved curriculum materials are sent to priesthood leaders through a notice or Information for Priesthood and Auxiliary Leaders on Curriculum. The Church curriculum year begins on 1 January worldwide.
